السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ Know oh beloved Muslim that if Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala) wants good for a slave then He grants him the understanding of the Deen (this is the meaning of the hadith of Muawiyah (RadiAllaahu anhum ajmaeen) found in Bukhari) - this shows the virtue of knowledge! And know may Allaah bless you that "Allâh bears witness that Lâ ilâha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), and the angels, and those having knowledge (also give this witness); (He is always) maintaining His creation in Justice. Lâ ilâh illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the All-Mighty, the All-Wise." (3:18) - this shows the virtue of the people of knowledge i.e. the scholars of al Islaam! My advice is simple in shaa Allaah... Constantly monitor your intention and ask yourself why you are studying the Arabic language? Your intention (i.e. in your heart and not on your tongue) should be similar to this: "I am learning the arabic language so that in shaa Allaah I can lift from myself ignorance which will allow me to better fulfil the purpose of my creation (i.e. to worship Allaah (Azza wa jal))" ...and how will you lift from yourself ignorance??...by understanding the Qur'aan and Sunnah as the Sahabah of the messenger (sallaAllaahu alaihi wa sallaam) understood and act upon these texts as they did...and this is done by returning to the scholars by either their written works or their audio works or by returning to them specifically and learning while in their company...and without doubt the last is the best! Below is a relevant advice from a scholar: (the source of this text is a trustworthy website which propagates the following of the Qur’an and sunnah upon the methodology of the Sahabah (RadiAllaahu anhum ajmaeen)) By:Shaikh Ahmed Najmee (RahimahuAllaahu) The Questioner says: Im weak in my reading the books of benefit and when I begin to read some of the books of `ilm (knowledge) I feel weakness and boredom; so what is your advice for me, and what is the correct path in reading the books which contain beneficial knowledge; benefit us (those seeking reward)? Firstly: It is a must for the one who seeks knowledge to purify his intention for Allaah the Lord of the worlds, and make his seeking the `ilm (knowledge) being only for the purpose and goal of obtaining the pleasure of Allaah; and in order to know the truth, to act by it, and to know falsehood so as to refrain from it. Secondly: To act by that, which he has learned from knowledge within in himself, and to try and teach what he has learned from knowledge to others. Thirdly: To safeguard what he has learned by memorizing it, and reviewing the `ilm (knowledge) so it does not escape him. Fourthly: To be steadfast in learning what he does not know, so to add knowledge on top of knowledge. Fifthly: To ask Allaah constantly to bestow & grant him with beneficial knowledge and provisions that are vast, and actions that are accepted; and the Prophet (SallAllaahu `Alaihi Was Salaam) would say if he prayed the fajr prayer after he would make tasleem (salaam to the right then the left) this duaa: O Allaah, I ask you for knowledge which is beneficial and sustenance which is good, and deeds which are acceptable. (To be said after making salaam for the fajr prayer) Sixthly: If he was to feel tired and weak when he is in front of knowledge and ready to study, then he should ask Allaah to make for him will power and a desire to gain knowledge and dedicate himself to it. Seventhly: Its obligatory on the student of knowledge to refrain from disobedience, for indeed disobedience kills the heart and weakens the understanding and its narrated about Imaam Shaafiee he said: I complained to my teacher Wakee about my weak memory so he directed me to leave of sin and then he said, `know!!!! That knowledge is light; and the light of Allaah He does not give it to a disobedient person. And I say the proof for that is found in the Book of Allaah when He Glorified be He Says, O you who believe! If you obey and Fear Allaah, He will grant you Furqaan a criterion, and will expiate for you your sins, and forgive you, and Allaah is the Owner of Great Bounty. O you who believe Fear Allaah, and believe too in His Messenger (SallAllaahu `Alaihi Wa Sallam), he will give you a double portion of His Mercy, and he will give you a light by which you shall walk (straight), and he will forgive you. And Allaah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. So what is important is that the student of knowledge needs consistent striving, striving against himself and against ones passions and lower desires and its greed, and to tire himself out in acquiring knowledge, and to hope that Allaah will enable him to achieve that, and the success (tawfeeq) is from Allaah. Soorah Al-Anfaal (8):29 Soorah Al Hadeed (57):28 Translated from the book Fataawa Jaaliyya pg. 111 والحمدلله و الصلاة و السلام على رسول الله

Akhee may Allaah bless you and grant you understanding in the Deen, Ameen. I would like to add to the above another really key advice and that is...BE CONSISTENT!!! If you have a fast internet connection then I advise you to download each of the videos to your local PC...then spend a consistent amount of time each day learning...there is no harm in doing each video in chunks rather than all at once...just keep a simple note on your PC (maybe through a .txt file or a note) which records the length of the dar at the point you stopped...then next time continue from here...but be consistent and in shaa Allaah you will progress. However if you don't have a fast internet connection then you can still pause videos online and record the length and then go back to them later so no problems in shaa Allaah. I advise you that you stop thinking in terms of how many videos you finish in a given time but rather think about how much are you learning...and know that true knowledge is learned in steps and slowly...not all at once...I recall shaikh fawzaan (hafidahuAllaahu ta'aala) recently answered a question in which he mentioned that knowledge is gained 'shayan fa shayan'...'little by little'. If you are able to watch the video and understand the concepts and then you are able to do the tamareen (exercises) then this is a good sign of progression in shaa Allaah. Also try to be organised...make notes...know my brother that shaytaan will trick you into thinking you don’t need to make notes because ‘it’s easy’ but knowledge escapes a person quicker than it enters him unless Allaah grants him tawfeeq of memorisation and without doubt making notes is a good way to memorise. Also read through the dars before and after the lesson and this will in shaa Allaah improve your fluency in reading. Another great way to see what you have learned is to recite the Qur’aan and see if you can understand without needing a translation...if you are able to do this then this is a great sign in shaa Allaah. I would like to end by mentioning two points: 1. Ma shaa Allaah this course (i.e. the Madeenah books) has been designed very well and may Allaah reward our shaikh, ameen. This is because you will learn concepts in one chapter and then practice these concepts in the subsequent chapters...this is beautiful ma shaa Allaah and quite effective wa lillaahil hamd. 2. If you get stuck with anything from the books...small or big...don’t be sad or get frustrated because ma shaa Allaah this forum (may Allaah bless all those who participate) will be able to help you in shaa Allaah. Just post your question and you will get an answer quite quickly and if there is a need then the sheikh (i.e. the author of the book Dr V Abdur Rahim (hafizhahu Allaahu)) himself will answer ...this is a really helpful resource ma shaa Allaah. سبحانك اللهم و بحمدك أستغفرك و أتوب إليك والحمدلله و الصلاة و السلام على رسول الله

Wa'alikum Salaam warahmatullaahi wabarakaathu,
I am taking notes brother. i have bought an exercise book and am copying down every details from the video. I have set a target of 4 parts per week, which is 8 hours. If i find it overwhelming, then i will cut it down to 2 parts. i also have another schedule of memorizing the quran 1 page every week. Inshallah, i will be able to cope. And i am also expecting the memorising part to be easier as i learn arabic inshallah. As you have said, consistency is the key...but that is exactly my weakness. I will strive hard to eliminate this diesease inshallah. I will also refrain from sinning inshallah as much as my ability permits. Inshallah, i will keep update my progress here and i will ask all my questions here in the forum. Nice to realize that the Sheikh (hafizhahullah) himself is here to answer qns...nowhere has arabic learning has been this resourceful. I even wanted to spend 100s of dollars of rocket arabic. But Alhamdulillah, i was guided to this forum. Now, only consistency is between me and success Wallahua'alam. Barakallhu feek brother... Assalaamu'alaikum wa rahmatullah. Assalaamu 'alaikum Brother abdulqadirjailani
I would like to add a beneficial quote, taken from the web-site of LQToronto which says: "Please remember if you are dedicated, serious and hardworking, you will achieve something most beautiful and rewarding in your life (i.e. the understanding of the Qur’an directly when you recite it or when the recitation is heard). The beauty, the Eloquence, the Miracle and the Divine Wisdom of the Qur’an will penetrate the innermost depth of your heart and you will experience the joy and happiness which cannot be expressed but can only be felt in the Believer’s Heart." It is by understanding al-Qur'aan al-Kariim directly, that one has actually started to read al-Qur'aan - before that we have not actually read Allaah's Speech. And by reading al-Qur'aan directly with understanding, one starts to feel the Divine Guidance addressing him/her. When one feels the direct address of al-Qur'aan and senses the beauty of the Speech of Allaah the Blessed and High, the beauty of the Guidance, the beauty of the One deserving all worship etc, one cannot except submit and comply, strive, fear, love and hold Allaah in awe - just as He deserves - until one's iimaan is perfected. One starts to feel the honour of being a Muslim - something not felt by one who does not understand al-Qur'aan directly and correctly. One starts to have the companionship of our noble Scholars (baaraka Allaahu fii-him), such as our Shaykh Dr. Abdur Rahim (HafiZahullaah); we enjoy their company, take knowledge directly from them and speak to them in the language of the Revelation. One casts aside the 'barriers' that he had placed between himself and the Speech of Allaah - and by this I mean keeping one's attention away from learning Arabic, or not fully devoted to it, which is a barrier to understanding al-Qur'aan until he returns himself to this noble effort and gives it the right that is due to it. The right effort will lead to many new doors being opened up for him by Allaah - one of them is that he is given entry into the Gardens of al-Qur'aan. And this is a great opening and entry ... A final word: I have not seen any danger greater than sins that stand in the way of achieving success in learning the language of al-Qur'aan. If we seek the Help of Allaah every step of the way in our learning and assist ourselves by staying away from what Allaah has prohibited (even if it is painful), then it will not be long before the way becomes easy and comfortable (lack of desire for learning will overturn into eagerness for it) - since this is a promise from Allaah that after hardship comes the ease. Allaah is All-Thankful. He supports those striving sincerely to understand His Book and does not let their efforts go unrewarded. Wassalaam Last edited by Aaishah; 01-06-2011 at 07:38 PM. |

wa'alaikum salam warahmatullah sister aaishah,
You have stressed the importance of keeping away from sins...and how much it enables the light of Allah azzawajal to be upon our hearts. the importance of keeping away from sins can never be stressed enough..i just hope i realize its importance inshallah... I can only be guided if Allah wills...i would love to feel the impact of Allah's words in my heart in its original form..and how i would love to have the entire speech of Allah which was spoken to His final messenger and prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) all preserved in my heart when i die!!! And that itself will be my motivation to keep away from sins... Barakallahumma feekum |

Assalamu Alaikum,
My 2 cents: Watch as much as you as long as you are absorbing the concepts. One method that works for me: The method: 1. Read the key (in English) of one lesson. 2. Read the Lesson. 3. Watch the Video of that lesson. 4. Optionally Listen to the audio files (English or Urdu). 5. Do exercises of that lesson 6. Check your answers. If you do not understand any part post your questions in the forum. May Allah (swt) make your efforts to learn the language of the Qur'an easy and increase us all in knowledge. Wasalam |
