وعليكم السلام ورحمةُ اللهِ

Madinah Book 3, key to lesson 5 gives us the patterns to follow for forming اسمُ الفاعلِ and اسمُ الْمَفْعُولِ for the muda”af verbs.

You will also find many already formed, by looking up the verb (under its root) in our Shaykh’s Arabic-English Dictionary.

The pattern is very easy.

Here I will give you a grammar term which lexically, is an ismu l-faa’il and ismu l-maf’uul formed from a muda”af verb.

Since we are familiar with this term (quoted below), it may be helpful to use it as a ‘template’ to form other ismu l-faail’s and ismu l-maf’uuls for other muda”af verbs in their original form (مُجَرَّدٌ) (i.e. have no letters added to the verb.)

Quote : -------------
جرر)
جَرَّ جَرّاً (a-u), to draw, pull.

اسْمُ الْفَاعِلِ : جَارٌّ
اسْمُ الْمَفْعُولِ : مَجْرُورٌ

End quote ------------- Ref, pg 36 :

A Glossary of Words Used In :

دُرُوسُ اللُّغَةِ الْعَرَبِيَّةِ لغيرِ النَّاطِقِينَ بِهَا

Arabic-English Dictionary

By

Dr. V. Abdur Rahim

-----------------------------

Our Shaykh explains the rule for forming the ismu l-faa’il for the muda”af verbs :

Quote from Key to Madinah Book 3, lesson 5 :--------------

a) Muda”af verb :

حَجَّ
حَاجٌّ
( haajj-un ) ‘pilgrim

- for حَاجِجٌ ( haajij-un ).

The kasrah of the second radical is dropped for assimilation.

************

a) Muda”af verb :

The اسْمُ الْمَفْْعُولِ from this verb is regular.

e.g.

سَرَّ : مَسْرُورٌ

‘pleased’

عَدَّ : مَعْدُودٌ

‘counted’

صَبَّ : مَصْبُوبٌ

‘poured out’

حَلَّ : مَحْلُولٌ

‘solved’

End quote---------------

So the ‘template’ to use - if you wish – is :

جَارٌّ
مَجْرُورٌ

Regarding مَرَّ – يَمُرُّ :

The ismu l-faa’il is highlighted below.

quote : ---------

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ - رضي اللهُ عنه – قَالَ :
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ – صلى اللهُ عليه وسلم :
" يُسَلِّمُ الصَّغِيرُ على الْكَبِيرِ، وَالْمَارُّ على الْقَاعِدِ،
والْقَلِيلُ على الْكَثِيرِ."

(متفق عليه أيْ رواه البخاري ومسلم).

End quote, ref pg 11 : -----------

أَحَادِيثُ سَهْلَةٌ

جَمَعَهَا وَشَرَحَهَا

الدكتورُ ف، عبدُ الرحيمِ

(Fifth re-print Sept. 2006 CE)

Hope this has helped you.

Wassalaam
