Salam sister. I think the question is a double-edged sword. When writing these two hamzahs, we need to know not only (1) when to write them, but (2) HOW to write them.

The good news is that it is easy to know WHEN to write hamzah al-qat' and HOW to write hamzah al-wasl. So that leaves us with just (a) When to write hamzah al-wasl and (b) How to write hamzah al-qat'.

If all this intrigues you, please let me know and I will try to explain it in shaa' Allaah... unless someone else would like to.

salamualaikum

hamaza al qata is written when at the start of a sentence, so the hamza signs is visible and must be pronounced, however if a word with a hamza at the beginning is preceeded by a word, then the hamza will not be visible but a little sign similar to a suad will be written to indicate its prescence and non prescence at the same time, meaning that it is eaten up or assimilated in pronounciation.

correct if wrong pls..

Assalaamualaikum

Just a question about Lesson 8:

For Exercise 3, #3:

We're given: ذَلِكَ وَلَدٌ ... اِبْنُ الْمُدَرِّسِ and we're supposed to make وَلَدٌ into a بَدَلٌ which I know how to do. But my question is concerning the اِبْنُ: Do we assimilate the hamzatul-wasl or not? (i.e. ذَلِكَ الوَلَدُ اِبْنُ الْمُدَرِّسِ or ذَلِكَ الوَلَدُ ابْنُ الْمُدَرِّسِ ?)

I ask this because the brother in the video didn't assimilate it, so that made me unsure.

JazakAllahu Khair!
