السلام عليكم

Why is ذهبتما and ذهبتم a mutaharrik pronoun? The end is saakin.

wa alaikumussalaam wa rahmatullaah.
Your point is valid. But at least there is a vowel on ت therefore it is mutaharrik. The details you can learn later on inshaAllah.

'aleikoum salām wa raHmatoullāh wa barakātouh,

Ustādh Asif said several times in his lectures that, in the verbs you have mentionned brother yusufadam, normally it is not تم and تما which are the pronoun, but only the تُ , which is indeed a mutaHarik pronoun. As he said, Ustadh Asif taught us that all تم and تما are the pronoun in order to facilitate the learning and not create confusion in students' mind.

  • In ماض, for all forms you have:
- 2 invisible pronouns (muqaddar);
- 3 sākina prounouns:
- 9 mutaHarik pronouns
----------------------------------
----------------------------------
ذهبَ
ذهبَا
ذهبُوا
----------------------------------
ذهبَتْ
ذهبَتَا
ذهبْنَ
----------------------------------
----------------------------------
ذهبْتَ
ذهبْتُمَا
ذهبْتُمْ
----------------------------------
ذهبْتِ
ذهبْتُمَا
ذهبْنَتُنَّ
----------------------------------
----------------------------------
ذهبْتُ
ذهبْنَا

----------------------------------
----------------------------------

  • In مضارع, for all forms you have:
- 6 invisible pronouns (muqaddar); they are what Ustādh Asif call "5 in your pockets ;
- 6 sākina prounouns:
- 2 mutaHarik pronouns

----------------------------------
----------------------------------

يذهبُ
يذه
بَانِ
يذهبُونَ
----------------------------------
تذهبُ
تذه
بَانِ
يذهبْنَ
----------------------------------
----------------------------------
تذهبُ
تذه
بَانِ
تذهبُونَ

----------------------------------
تذهبُ
تذه
بَانِ
تذهبْنَ
----------------------------------
----------------------------------
أذهبُ
نذهبُ
----------------------------------
----------------------------------

There is one important point to stress on. You'll notice that :
- the forms for which we have a mutaHarrik pronouns, the 3rd radical of the verb (that is the letter preceding the pronoun) is always sākinah ( in the example above the letter بْ always has a soukoun ), while;
- the forms for which we have a sākinah pronouns, the 3rd radical of the verb is always mutaHarik ( in the example above you either have the letter بَ or بُ always has a soukoun )

And Allah knows the best.

There is also a vowel on the تَ in ذهبتا but it is saakin pronoun?

I'm sorry for being a pain.

For this form, the pronoun is ا and not تَ as you've mentionned.

Why is ذهبْنَا considered a verb with mutaharrik pronoun ? The Fa'il here is Naa, which has sakin at the end. Can anyone clarify this ?

My understanding that this alif in ذهبْنَا is not a consonant but a long vowel.
Br. Benss jazak Allah for your detail posting.
For pronouns attached to madi conjugation please see pages 57 and 58 of text book 2.

Assalamualaykum

What is meant by the alif not being a consonant but a long vowel?
