wa alaikumussalaam.
Ayyun is a noun meaning "which". And it mostly comes as a mudaaf. In madina books we have learned its mudaaf form. If you missed the explanation then you can find it here at 45m25s: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5u-RcwksMA&t=45m25s |

'aleikoum salām wa rahmatoullāh wa barakātouh,
following brother hassan's post, I just wanted to add some comments or things that may be relevant and good to know about أَيّ . أَيّ is an اِسم . It is more preciselly an اِسم استفهام. As it falls into the category of اِسم , one must automatically wonder whether it is mu'rab or mabni: indeed, we know that the asmā are of two kinds, mu'rab or mabni. Among all the asmā al-istifhām أَيّ is the only one which is mu'rab, all the rest is mabni. For instance we have: أَيُّ يَوْمٍ هَذَا ؟ (مبتدأ مرفوع)ء أَيَّ كتابِ تَقْرَأُ ؟ (مفعول به منصوب)ء في أَيِّ كتابِ كتبتَ الدرس ؟ (اسم مجرور)ء Quote:
By the way, you probably did not noticed an important point regarding the idāfa (annexation): only nouns are concerned by the Idāfa. I mean: knowing that أَيّ comes as mudāf, then one must know that it is necessarily and by deduction an Ism (a harf or a fi'l cannot be mudāf or mudāf ilaihi). The idāfa is a "properity" that only concerns nouns, as much as tanween only concern nouns. From that, we can dervied a general rule: any word that can be mudāf or mudāf ilaihi is necessarily an Ism. Your question is a bite ambiguous. If you meant: "Is mudāf ilaihi coming after ayyu always majrour or in a place of a ism majrour ?", the answer is YES If you meant: "Is mudāf ilaihi coming after ayyu always majrour WITH KASRA ?", the answer is NO If you meant: "Is mudāf ilaihi coming after ayyu always WITH TANWEEN?", the answer is NO Hope this give us more insight regarding about أَيّ .
