I have finally completed all three books and videos and it has been a great experience. It took me about 6 months, two to two and half hours per day, including pausing to take notes and doing selected exercises myself. I would say the vast majority of the main grammar is straightforward, as taught by this course.
I would like to mention two points in particular about the course. One is the method of verb conjugation. In some grammar books that I have, conjugation tables for the moods of the verb and the imperative are presented for the reader to memorize and learn. In this course, some principles and a basic table are memorized, and the rest of the conjugations can be inferred (you could say calculated). This method is much easier and superior. This also applies to defective verbs, one book I have says that the rules are too complex and just learn them individually. I was able to understand the conjugation of defective verbs from this course. The second point concerns book three. As brother Asif says, in terms of quantity this was somewhat overwhelming. However, the key for this book is truly excellent and in my opinion could be regarded as a text book for the material that it covers. I now need to revise the material, practice conjugations and learn vocabulary. I cannot recommend this course highly enough to those wishing to learn Arabic of the Qur'an by self study. |

bismiAllaah As you know all good comes from Allaah, and all the praises solely belong to him only; may he be glorified, and exalted. I am very delighted to hear the you have succesfully completed the beneficial Madinah books. I also that you have greatly benefited from the Madinah books. I am very happy for you brother; ma sha Allaah. You have put in a great amount of time, and effort; may Allaahu ta'ala recompensate you with many good for it. Finally, I hope you are able to constantly review your finished studies, memorize vocabulary, and being a conversational Arabic class. As you now, you can now apply the theory you have learned into a practical format by beginning to convese in Arabic in sha Allaahu ta'ala; baraka Allaahu feek.

assalam aleikum,
baraka Allah feek, did you realize, how the way brother asif, drilled the pronouns, made a huge difference in the way you hear and read. There is no thought process, by the time you are done, it's automatic. with exception of some tricky areas with nun tawkid and nun niswa. But this understanding will most likely come with understanding context. I guess after madina, there are many paths and areas to focus as the Arabic is vast, and there are many sciences. remember there is meaning in the grammar and word choices, but there is another often overlooked area, that is how it was articulated-> tajweed science. This area of study with text book grammar, will open understanding to a different level. wa Allah ya'lam assalam aleikum wa rahmat Allah wa barakata Last edited by pcozzy; 03-08-2010 at 11:12 PM. |

Asalaam o laikum br Mujahid I wanted to ask you as i am at the other side of the journey just starting on book 1 inshallah. After all the effort you put in and worked your way through the videos etc. Do you find that you can 1) Read the Quran with understanding? 2) Converse to people in arabic (excluding regional dialect) I want to know as I want to know if I can get these 2 much needed goals out of watching these videos inshALLAH and running through the lessons. I personally cannot directly understand a lot of Qur'an as I don't know the vocabulary yet. As stated in the post I intend to do 3 things, learn vocabulary, revise and practise conjugations. I have started by learning the vocabulary for some the shorter surahs, and the understanding with grammar is definitely superior to just translation.
As for speaking, that is not a priority for me at the moment but I expect the knowledge gleaned from the course to help. Last edited by mujahed; 03-17-2010 at 10:07 AM. Reason: addition |
