I have learnt in book 3 that مستثنى after إلا is always mansub. It may also change its i'raab if following two cases exist
1. If its mufarragh 2. If it is taamun, muttasilun and Ghair mujabun. In that case, Could anyone pls explain why the musthasnaa is marfoo' in this sentence لا إله إلا اللهُ or لا إله إلا أنتَ or لا إله إلا هوَ |

لا إلَهَ إلاّ اللَّهُ
This is how I see it. (1) The Istithna is Muttasil because Allah (Mustathna) and Ilah (Mustathna minhu) are of same kind. (2) This is a negative sentence. (3) So according to the rule on page 139 of English key, Allah may be mansub or it may have the same Irab of Mustathna minhu. (4) But according to what we learn about “La al-nafiyatu lil-jinsi” on page 91 of the English key, the word Ilaha is actually Mabniy with fatha, it is not Mansub. (5) Since our Mustathna minhu is Mabniy, what do we do with our Mustathna ??? Surely, we can not make Allah Mabniy. So perhaps we leave it in its "natural" or default case, which is marfu. This is just my own idea and probably I might be proven wrong

Don't take my above answer. Please see page 28 of "The Selection from the Glorious Quran". There, Allahu laa ilaaha illa hua is explained.
Thanks. |

As you well said "La ilaha" is ismo la-nafia lil-jinse and is mabni ala fatah but as an ism is fee mahalee raf. Therefore Allah is marfu. Allah knows best. |

The لا is لا النافية للجنس Its ism is إله and its khabar is محذوف. The khabar can be construed as يَستَحِقُّ العِبَادَةَ (deserves worship) or مَوجُودٌ. اللهُ is marfoo because it is badal of the dameer which is present in ommited khabar of لا النافية للجنس. See Selections from the Glorious Quran, Page 28. |

Yes brother Hassan, we know this.
But the questioner (ashiqputtur) asked the question from the point of view of Istithna. Do the "cases" of Istithna and Mustathna minhu follow the rules he mentioned? Does the explanation of page 28 of SFTGQ answer this question? |

Yes brother. The istithnaa here is mufarragh. And in mufarragh the mustathnaa does not have a fixed i'raab. It takes the i'raab it deserves in the sentence,
e.g., ما رسب إلا بلالٌ 'No one failed except Bilal.' Here the mustathnaa (بلالٌ) is the faa'il. Therefore it takes the i'raab which it deserves. And in ما رأيتُ إلا بلالاً 'I saw no one except Bilal' بلالاً is mafool bihi. Therefore it takes its deserving i'raab. Mustathnaa can be haal, it can be tamyeez, and it can be khabaru kaana etc. Now in لا إله إلا الله, the word اللهُ is coming as a badal therefore it takes the i'raab of the word from which it is badal.
