أَجْمَعُونَ

- is the plural of :

أَجْمَعُ.

These nouns, their grammatical functions and how we understand and use them in marfuu, mansuub and majruur forms – such as in the du’aa mentioned in your question, are fully explained in one of the Hadiith books compiled by our Shaykh – حفظه اللهُ

It is the 19 th Hadiith in the collection, and is the lexical and grammatical study of the famous Hadiith story about the king, the boy and the sorcerer.

Quote pg 135 --------------------

End quote. Ref : -----------

نُصُوصٌ مِنَ الْحَدِيثِ النَّبَوِيِّ الشَّرِيفِ

جَمَعَها وشَرَحَها

الدكتورُ ف. عبدُ الرحيمِ

(Re-print Aug 2009 CE)

--------------------------------------------------------------

These valuable notes help us understand the noun: أَجْمَعِينَ – lexically and grammatically.

Now we will understand it in the noble du’aa (called khutbatu l-Haajah) which our Shaykh himself always starts his books with. After the basmalah, he says:

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْْعَالَمِينَ. وَالصَّلاَةُ وَالسَّلاَمُ على أَشْرَفِ الأَنْبِيَاءِ وَالْمُرْسَلِينَ. سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَعلى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ أَجْمَعِينَ.

-----------

أَجْمَعِينَ is for tawkiid, and means "all".

It follows the mu’akkad (noun being emphasised) in ‘iraab (ref. Madinah Book 3 and the Glossary, pg 40 ).

For more notes and examples of “ajma’uun/”ajma’iin”, students are highly recommended to obtain our Shaykh’s Arabic-English Dictionary and Glossary of Arabic Terms and Vocabulary used in the Madinah Course, - which is purchasable on-line from LQToronto, and also available free, from the downloads on their web-site.

For notes on this topic, see pg 40 here :

http://www.lqtoronto.com/Madina_Glossary.pdf

Finally, the word :

جَمِيعاً

- is discussed in our Shaykh’s Qur’aanic Selections book which is a post-graduate course (book and DVDs) for the students who have graduated from the Madinah Course, named :

“Selections From the Glorious Qur’aan

- With Lexical and Grammatical Notes;

A Companion to Duruus al-Lughah ”

- with 6 explanatory DVDs featuring the Shaykh himself teaching the course.

In lesson 4, we study the deep lexical and grammatical content of selected aayaat from suurah ‘Aal ‘Imraan, starting with the noble aayah :

وَاعْتَصِمُوا بِحَبْلِ اللهِ جَمِيعاً

Hope this is helpful to you.

Wassalaam
