As you know all good comes from Allaah, and all the praises solely belong to him may he be Glorified, and Exalted.

You have asked a good question; ma sha Allaah. (ثَمّ) means over there.

Assalaamu 'alaikum brother.

The words thamma and thammata appear in Book 3, Lesson 12, in the conversation between al-mudarris and Jamaal. I don't believe their meaning or usage is ever explained in the text.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

As the brother mentioned, they both mean 'over there' (hunaaka)

Assalaamu 'Alaykum

This word (ثَمَّ) can be found in surah 76 verse 20.
وَ إذَا رَأَيْتَ ثَمَّ رَأَيْتَ نَعِيْمًا - And when you look thereat you will see bliss.

Our Shaykh also explains in detail, the usage of zarfu l-makaan in Madinah Book 3, lesson 12 - of which the zuruuf : thamma and thammata , come under this category. So we learn from lesson 12 how to apply these two zuruuf, as well as others in this category, in our sentences.

Here is the statement of the teacher from the conversation of Lesson 12
( as referenced by one of the Brothers ) - which gathers in one response, both :

ظَرْفُ الْمَكانِ وَالزمانِ :

الْمُدَرِّسُ :

لَبِثْتُ ثَمَّةَ يوماً أو بعضَ يومٍ.

Which can be translated as :

“I stayed there a day, or part of a day.”
