If you mention a مضاف إليه after قبل and بعد , they have fat7ah:
ذَهَبْتُ قَبْلَ ذَهَابِكَ
خَرَجْتُ بعدَ خُرُوجِكَ

But if you remove the mudaaf ilayhi, they receive a single Dammah, for example:
كان مدرساً من قبلُ

In the examples you quote:
ذهبت إلى المسجد قبل الأذان, ورجعتُ بعدَ الصلاةِ

The mudaaf ilayhi (underlined above) is present, hence they get a fathah
